I am running Virtualbox on a Windows host (Vista)
I have some linux guest running, and were running fine.
Since a recent update, I was not able to cannot connect to guests. After investigation, I noticed that the address and the mask of the ethernet adaptator have changed
And when I try to update it, nothing happens
It's always set to 169.254.128.255/255.255.0.0
These are under Virtualbox parameters / network (not guest params)
I cannot find a solution in the forum.
Any help?
Cannot change IP adress for the ethernet adaptator

Re: Cannot change IP adress for the ethernet adaptator
Your guest is expecting a DHCP server to provide him with an IP address, but none replied to the request - hence you get the "I failed to get DHCP reply" IP range.
What happened during that "update" of yours, exactly and in details please?
Also, you should post the guest config output - see Minimum information needed for assistance.
Aswell, the following information would be usefull :

Re: Cannot change IP adress for the ethernet adaptator
DHCP is working fine, and this is the problem.
the DHCP range is 169.254.128.110 / 255.255.255.0
the guest has 2 addresses, first (NAT) to access the internet and the other "private host' to enable access from Host 169.254.229.110
I managed to make it work by changing the mask on the DHCP config, but it does not explain why IP config does not update

Well this is not a Virtualbox problem at all, so you should seek support on regular networking forums for this kind of issue.

Re: Cannot change IP adress for the ethernet adaptator
EUREKA !!!
It's not 100% virtualbox, but I think it's related
I checked the network properties of the "virtual box host only adapter" on windows side
I updated the IP address in there, and things went back to normal at Virtual box

Glad to see you found out the issue and thank you for coming back with your solution. Typical OS config issue then
