The entire error message being generated by the Terminal is "VBoxManage: error: Error processing "/Users/mark/.ievms/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe", rc=VERR_GENERAL_FAILURE"

I am attempting to install VirtualBox on a Mac Pro tower running Snow Leopard. I downloaded Virtual Box from osxdaily-dot-com (Run Internet Explorer 7, 8, and 9 in Mac OS X the Easy & Free Way) and followed their install instructions for running IE7 - IE9.

The installation process seems to be continuing but the above error message all that is being generated. Is this a lost cause?

You seem to be trying to use the .exe directly in Virtualbox, which will not work.
The .exe file must be run in your Windows guest.

Actually, from reading the osxdaily article, I guess the exe is a self extracting executable containing a VHD, hence it must be run on a Windows PC to extract the contents. Possible you can also run the exe under Wine. Really however, the best source of info on what to do with this exe is the place it was downloaded from, which is presumably an MS download server.

I do find the article rather silly, that idea about frigging the VM time indefinitely to stop IEx time limited demo from expiring. A) I don't think it will work (with net access the VM will instantly correct the time), B) how pleasant will it be to run a modern PC without a working clock? and finally C) it's amusing that people will spends hundreds of dollars in man hours, and suffer all kinds of inconveniences in efforts to circumvent spending $50 on eBay for a kosher XP license.
