Guest additions

Post by globewalker1 »

Hello. Sorry if this is repeated elsewhere but I urgently need an answer to my problem.

I was successful in setting up a Linux guest and had the issue of the viewing window not matching my monitor size or scaling correctly to meet my needs. I added the guest additions and everything then was displayed perfectly as it should. But then I installed a Win7 guest and had the same issue. I tried installing guest additions here and what has happened now is that neither one of my guests are being displayed correctly.

I am referring to the aspect ratio and the display area of the desktop as needed for proper viewing on my monitor and about the size of windows opened within the VM guest's workspace.

Is there a separate guest addition for each OS i use? Does one guest addition provide all the necessary support for any number of different guests that I create? Do I need to have separate instances of VirtualBox running for each guest or OS i want to use?

One other issue: Is it possible to connect a VM to its own dedicated server platform that works completely independent of the host and any other guests?

Thanks in advance to those who provide prompt responses... :D

The Guest Additions must be installed in the guest. You have to install the Guest Additions in every guest you run. Guests are independent from each other, that is, a change in your Linux guest should not induce any change in your Windows guest. As you wrote that installing the GA in your Windows guest stopped the GA in the Linux guest from working I suspect that you did something wrong.
