Out of curiosity have you tried to install a virgin 13.04 guest to see if it works?
If it does then you have something corrupt in the upgrade build. At least you would know if it were VirtualBox or Ubuntu to focus on.
Ubuntu 13.04 not starting after upgrading from 12.10

sigh.. that one does work.. graphics VESA:Oracle VM Virtualbox VBE Adapter (whereas in my old version it just shows nothing for graphics)..
...a few minutes later... Up until the point when I installed the guest additions.. after restarting (because it jumped to a text screen with a textcursor blinking after I pressed <CTR><ALT><T>), login in it just stays at the same kind of text screen with the cursor blinking.. So I guess that one has another problem.. LOL..
So for my 'old' version, it must be something in the upgrade process..

Re: Ubuntu 13.04 not starting after upgrading from 12.10
I do have 13.04 install as host and 12.04 as well. I continue to stay with 12.04 because Conical is going through a massive change (and not all for the best in my opinion). I would expect issues for a while and if given the chance to upgrade to 13.10 I intend to skip it myself unless they start to listen to the end users.
I also know my Mint hosts don't seem to have as many issues even though it is actually based off Ubuntu. Go figure???
In my opinion all of the distros are going through growing pains in an attempt to be number 1 and they forget what made the so useful. Oh well welcome to progress.
