error message while creating a virtual machine

Post by sashi »

I installed oracle virtual box and once I select the create new virtual disk > VDI > Dynamically allocate I get an error message as VERR_ALREADY_EXISTS with the same name which I gave to create a virtual machine.

Please help me with this issue

The error message means what it says, i.e. it can't create a new file because an existing file has the name you have selected. Continuing would destroy the existing file. I assume you had a previous failed attempt to create the VM?

You can browse inside the "<userdoc>\VirtualBox VMs" folder to see your individual VM folders previously created and not yet physically deleted. You can physically delete them yourself if you believe they are orphaned, but a backup might be a wise step.

I'm not sure that I understand your description of what you are doing. The "New VM" wizard normally takes care of creating a first VDI for the VM. You aren't creating another disk as a separate step are you? If so, don't.
