VirtualBox and .OVA files

Hello!!

Maybe someone can help me with this problem:

- My Host machine runs Windows8 OS
- My guest OS is Ubuntu Linux (the mage for the Virtual Machine)
- I installed VirtualBox on my Host Machine and followed the instructions to add the VM to VirtualBox
- However when I try to load the Virtual Machine image (it is an .OVA file) into the VirtualBox, the procedure terminates without any warning and
- when I launch the Virtual Machine, I get an error message that says, "FATAL: No bootable medium found! system halted."

I get that maybe the VirtualBox is unable to recognize the Virtual Machine file. But to the best of my knowledge the Virtual Machine comes as an .ISO file but in this case it is an .OVA file.

What am I not doing? I feel that there is something missing in this process that I am using.

An ISO file typically contains an image of a the setup CD for the guest OS. To use that you create a new VM and attach the ISO as a virtual CD. On VM startup the OS installer runs. This is IMHO the best way to create a VM that suits your purposes.

An OVA is pre-made VM, made to someone else's recipe. It needs to be added to your PC by using the File | Import Appliance... feature of VirtualBox.

This is because you have just set up your VirtualBox and didn't mount the image .
Go to settings, click on storage tab.
Click on icon with CD on it to mount your .ISO file.
Now select the ISO file from your host machine.
Power on your VM.
It will rum now. Install the wanted guest OS !
