VirtualBox 4.2.12 on Windows XP SP3

I can run VirtualBox 4.2.12 quite happily on Windows 7 64-bit, but I'm now trying to install it on a friend's XPSP3 (32-bit) PC.

The only options changed during installation are to deselect the HostOnly network, and to not set up a QuickLaunch shortcut.
The installation apparently completed successfully.

However, when I try to start VirtualBox (to start creating virtual machines) I get the error:
Failed to create the COM object.
The application will terminate

Callee RC: CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE (0x80080005)

I've looked around, and can't find anything that fits this specific problem. There are comments about sharing /VirtualMachines directories, but that doesn't apply here. It's a new installation of VirtualBox, and there aren't any VMs yet!

All help gratefully received.

Thanks

Kevin

XP SP3 is what I use, and I've never had installation problems. Application failure to start usually IMHO means that you installed the app in the wrong user account. It would be useful to have some info on the host PC, e.g. available RAM, exact CPU type etc.
