USB not recognized on Windows 7

Post by AndyKw »

Hi Everyone,

My USB drive is recognized by my Windows 7 virtualbox but it is stubbornly refusing to mount.

Before getting into too much details , let me give you a checklist of what I have, what I have done and the results:

Environment :

MacOs 10.7.4 (Host)
Virtual box on Windows 7

What I have done :

- Setup a filter on virtualbox for my usb drive - key
- Unmount my drive everytime on mac before trying to mount it on the virtualbox
- Only one CPU in the Virtualbox setting

Results :

The USB key is recognized by Windows 7 but it is refusing to mount. I've tried to reinstall the driver for the USB key on Windows 7 but to no avail. It is not this USB key but every USB drive I'm trying to plugin.

I hope my explanation was clear enough. Let me know if you need additional info.

Thanks.

More info is indeed needed. Please read Minimum information needed for assistance. and provide as a zip attachment:
- VM log file
- Guest config output
- Screenshot of the mount error.

Are you using a USB3 port? if yes, switch to a USB2 as VB doesn't support 3.

Dear Noiterak,

Indeed I did not tick the USB 2.0... It is now working fine.

Thanks for helping me out on that one as I struggled to find that point that I missed.

Many thanks again.

Best,
Andy

Mine is acting similar, the guest sees the external USB hard drive (says it is captured), but I still can't connect to it. When I open Windows explorer, the USB drive is not listed as one of the drives.

Running Virtual Box: 4.2.12 r84980
VirtualBox 4.2.12 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack is installed in the Guest

The host is: Mac OS X 10.7.5, 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 64 bit
The guest is: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, with 3GB Ram 64 Bit
The external USB drive that I am trying to read is a Western Digital with 300 GB

Attached is the log file from trying to connect the USB drive. Scroll all the way to the bottom.

Please let me know if additional information is needed.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

Attach as zip file the output of the guest config as well as a FULL VM log (from powerOn to powerOff when the USB try) - see here for the exact commands.
