VirtualBox disrupting my WiFi Adapter?

Post by Matt Hazard »

It would appear that VirtualBox is disrupting my WiFi Adapter. Whenever I boot my PC, the first thing I always have to do is right click the WiFi symbol, and the select "Troubleshoot Problems". If I don't, my PC can't connect to the internet. The problems listed is:

1. There may be a problem with the VirtualBox Host Only adapter

2. There may be a problem with the WiFi adapter.

After I "Try to fix these problems as Administrator", I resume internet connection as normal. But I still want to know what the problem is. I've tried to disable the host only adapter, but the problem still persists every system startup. And I never had this problem before installing VirtualBox.

Thank you for your help. :)

Open Control Panel, then Network Connections. Right click the entry for your WiFi NIC and select Properties. On the list of services attached to this NIC, try unticking the "VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver" and see if that makes a difference.

If it does: there may be a conflict with another service (look for anything non-standard), or you may have reached the limit for services attached to that NIC.

Yeah! It worked. I think I may have reached the limit for services attached to that NIC, what with all the Bluetooth and stuff attached to it. I'm not sure. Everything I have is standard OEM services.

Well, bridged networking is a useful feature to have in VirtualBox if basic NAT networking doesn't do what you want. In which case you may want to review the list and see whether something else (Bluetooth?) can be unticked instead of VBox Bridged Networking.

Ah, thanks. I had a vague memory that a workaround was possible for the max filters problem, but Googling for "network filters limit" turned up a million hits on sewage treatment... :)
