I have vb 4.2.4 and am thinking of upgrading to 4.2.12
I have never upgraded VB
Question, does the upgrade process, upgrade my existing VB from 4.2.4 to 4.2.12 or do I have to make a new VB and migrate content from 4.2.4 to 4.2.12?
Thanks in advance

All you should have to do is download 4.2.12 + the extension pack. Run the package from the .dmg file then once it's done either dbl-click the extension pack or open it from VirtualBox. You will have to install the new guest additions in your guests.

It will replace the 4.2.4 install I already have and keep the XP VM I have? Or will I have to rebuild the XP VM?

Updating the software does not affect data files, i.e. your VMs will not be affected, and in any case 4.2.4 to 4.2.12 is just a minor version update. Still, making a backup is always a wise move.
