I was trying to update my virtualbox to VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-Win as requested by vbox and during the update something failed and it appears to have removed vbox from my system. Since the initial failure I have tried to install a few more times including shutting the system down and then attempting the install. Still doesn't work.

I'm running this on a Win7 64 bit host.

I can't, the file size is 265 KB and the limit on this site is 128 KB. This log file is over 2500 lines long.

Here ya go, I compressed it.

First, uninstall previous version(s) of VirtualBox.

Then, just to make doubly sure, go and delete any existing folder (and contents): "c:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox".

Then try the installation again. Remember to install the extpack too.

at this point is my old virtual machine lost forever?

Updating the program folders (installing/reinstalling/uninstalling etc) has no effect on your data folders.

I did what you asked and it still doesn't install.

Details of errors will be required if you want help.

The error I see in the MSI log provided earlier is a certificates error when it tries to install the USB driver. Make sure you have full admin rights to install software, make sure the Windows host is not configured to silently reject untrusted software, make sure you let VBox install anything it wants.

After looking around some I found a post where someone tried to answer this problem (answer at bottom) but the install still isn't working. Anyone have any info on this? https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/11349
