(Solved) Ubuntu 13.10 audio issue

Post by loukingjr »

I know this is jumping the gun a little bit but I installed 13.10 daily build as a guest in VB 4.2.12 on a Mac host. Everything seems to work fine and the GAs installed. The problem is if I set the audio device as ICH AC97 it shows up in the guest as Dummy Output. If I set it to Intel HD Audio it shows as DIgital Audio but the audio doesn't work. Ubuntu is using the 3.9 kernel. Is it possible the audio module isn't building correctly? I had no build errors.

Just wondering.

Best I can tell it they are using the same audio as 13.04, at least at this point. I have a working install and the default works for me, but the version I am testing this on is from the future. I have not tested this on the release version of VBox yet.

that's what I thought. I read it's still basically 13.04 so I'm not sure what's going on. I didn't check the md5 because it's always right when I do check them. maybe I'll just reinstall it. I did install VLC so perhaps that screwed up the audio.

okay this is weird. I checked the audio while in the Live CD and it was fine. I installed it as a guest and the audio isn't working. I didn't even get to the GA's yet.

Make sure that the sound is not muted. Ubuntu is notorious about that on alphas, betas, However it was not muted for me. (downloaded today)

It wasn't muted. As I think I mentioned with the default install it didn't even list a sound card. just dummy output. I'm trying the 32bit .iso now.

geez. I just figured out what was wrong. apparently if you set the guest to autologin it doesn't have time to load everything.
