linux lighter than windows xp

Hi, please tell me I want to install 20 vms as i discussed on previous posts also.
As you know linux system is the ligher system and it takes less ram that means it better from xp, since I want to install 20 vms.
Please tell me where i download the lighter version of linux iso file and also tell me step by step that how to install it properly.

Damn Small Linux is the smallest but if you need step-by-step on how to install you are not going to be able to use it.

What exactly are you wanting to do with these guests?

I want to run skype one each vm, thats the only thing I want to do inside each machine.
I am choosing linus guest becoz i heard its ligher than xp so now please tell me how can I install the linus guest OS on virtual box,
since i only use skype inside each vm so i think i dont need huge hardisk, please guide me further,

Hopefully you aren't planning on trying to run 20 guests on the same host at the same time. It seems like you would also have a problem trying to get a webcam from your host to run on each one. If you are going to distribute 20 vms to others you just need to make one and clone it.

I want to run 20 vms yes with same host. Actually not 20 vms but 12 vms. and forget about webcam, I gave u example of skype so that u judge how much load I am giving to each vm, it doest mean I will use skype on each vm. I will run an application which takes about similar space as skype do.
my question is still unanswered though,
is my configuration below enough to run 12 vms on xp guest with my windows 7 host with these following computer specs, I hope answer is yes, If yes then please reply so that I buy this system, the system specs are as follows:

I would look at an Intel processor that supported EPT if it were me.

16GB minimum amount of RAM and the more you can afford the better.

No one can tell you for sure what will happen on your system. I can tell you that I have had 30 DSL guests running at the same time but I know Linux and how to tweak things. As for a step-by-step on how to use the guest, no one here will take that on. The various distros have their own support forums that can guide and teach you.

The processor I listed also a INtel one
and I am talking abt windows xp as a guest and after I told each info in detail that what I m going to do in each vm, i dont think its hard to estimate that whether my system configuration is enough for what I want to do with 12 vms or the configuration is not enough,
The only suggestion I got from u is 16 gb ram which I will note it down here.
But I need a some what precise answer

True, but the one you listed does not support EPT. (Extended page tables)

True but is EPT feature important for 12 vms usage. Since My vms are not loaded much,

Are you familiar with Linux? Not being rude but it doesn't sound like it. If you want a small footprint using a Linux "guest", you will need to install something very stripped / minimal like Debian or Arch. If you install something like CentOS or Ubuntu, it will be extremely bloated with graphical tools and stuff that will bog down performance. There are numerous Google articles that show you how to install Linux guests.
