I didn't have any problems installing Windows 7 as a guest and adding the guest additions. As a matter of fact I'm typing from it now.
Yeah I really don't want to do this though..

1. Don't go in safe mode, go back to normal mode.
2. Run the first .exe on the CDROM, it's the one without x86 or x64 in the name
3. When you are at the selection for 3D follow this :

check Direct 3D Support

You will be prompted, the good answer is
NO (conter-intuitive I know)

Press OK

It's good, simply carry on.

I should also say that if you did in fact install the 3D experimental drivers in safe mode you will need to first remove the guest additions in safe mode and reboot before installing the WDDM drivers (*not* in safe mode).

Oh well I started over and clicked yes..is that a problem?
Everything installed but now I cannot run the game I installed it all for. I did all this so I could run Atlantica online and everytime the game starts up and I log in it crashes.
Anything I can do to fix this?

Then you don't have the 3D drivers, and 3D will not work. So I think it is.
Uninstall & reinstall and click "No" this time.

3D support is experimental in Virtualbox. If it crashes after having properly installed the guest additions and the 3D drivers, nothing more can be done...

noteirak wrote:"Devices-->Install Guest Additions" will only mount the ISO in the VM. Autoplay has been disabled by default in Windows 7 so you still need to start the installation yourself from the guest CD drive.
Taken from
Chapter 4 in the User Manual :
Guest Additions for Windows wrote:Unless you have the Autostart feature disabled in your Windows guest, Windows will now autostart the VirtualBox Guest Additions installation program from the Additions ISO. If the Autostart feature has been turned off, choose VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe from the CD/DVD drive inside the guest to start the installer.
Thanks! That worked. Didn't realize I needed to do it from the guest VM.

I am confused by
"All you need do now is browse to the virtual CD inside the guest as I described above. I really can't think of a simpler way to describe it. If you don't know how to view folders in a Windows PC (right click start button, choose "Explore" - the CD is probably drive D), then perhaps you should ask a friend to help."
I do not understand what is meant my "browse to the virtual CD inside the guest". It sounds like I should use Windows explorer and execute the exe inside the iso file. I tried that and got wierd errors. I would think instead I need to look inside the iso within the VM and execute that exe under Linux within the VM. But I do not know how to do that from the Linux VM command line.
