Copying a VM from one physical computer to another

Post by thany »

It gives me an error:

Code: Select all

Failed to open virtual machine located in D:/Virtual Machines/Test/Test.vbox.

Cannot register the DVD image 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' {d5e88b8a-138c-4807-802e-739ff7fdc3e1} because a CD/DVD image 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' with UUID {b85658db-153c-4f0b-bbb9-10b67574c89f} already exists.

Result Code: E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component: VirtualBox
Interface: IVirtualBox {3b2f08eb-b810-4715-bee0-bb06b9880ad2}
So the guest additions iso has a different UUID. Why is this an error in the first place? There's literally nothing wrong!

Using VirtualBox 4.2.10 on Windows 7 x64 SP1.
I'm probably running the latest everything. Yolo.

Yes, it is silly isn't it. Same thing bit me the other day.

I think it's a regression because I'm pretty sure this has been fixed before. The only cures are, either remember to always unmount the GAs ISO after use, or manually correct the .vbox file, removing the media registry entry, and removing the storageattach line where the DVD is mounted. You need to be happy with xml syntax to do this.

Moved to "Using VirtualBox" as this is not a Windows Hosts only issue.
