Major conflict with MS Patch from April 2013
Posted: 18. Apr 2013, 07:51
I just wanted to share the problem I'm having after I installed the latest version of VB today on my laptop. The host is x64 Windows 7 and I have a fully patched system. MS prompted users to remove an update that was causing crashes/reboots:
support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011
I chose not to remove that patch since my machine was seemingly unaffected. I am warning fellow VB users to REMOVE THIS MS UPDATE. Tonight, I installed the latest VB and there were immediate problems following the installation. I tried a reboot to solve it and wouldn't you know it? My machine is getting blue screens and refuses to boot. From the looks of it (the previous link also explains this), the computer seems to think the MBR is missing or corrupt. I use TrueCrypt WDE to add a cherry to MY sundae
The only 3rd party app that was specifically named to cause these crashes after April's patch tuesday was Kasperky. I thought I'd let everyone know that it is well worth the few minutes to uninstall KB 2823324 so you won't spend hours repairing your OS as I'm doing. AFAIK, this conflict seems to only happen with the latest update to VB.
