Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 Aborts In Full Screen

Post by loukingjr »

Something I've run into seems to be a problem with not enough video memory for Ubuntu guests. Although I seem to be one of the few people not having a problem with 4.2.12 and Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS or Ubuntu 13.04, I am having a problem with Gnome 3.8. I have the video memory set to 128MB which is the largest available for Ubuntu guests but it doesn't seem to be enough for Gnome 3.8. The guest randomly aborts when in full screen but not if I run it at say 1600x1200 or smaller. I've seen the same issue with other guests, Windows 7 with less than 256MB memory, anything running Cinnamon. If I remember correctly Ubuntu running Unity required a minimum of 128MB which for a 2560x1440 display may not be enough. It certainly isn't for Windows 7. Perhaps in the next version the video memory limit for Ubuntu guests could be raised to 256MB as it is for Windows. And even though MacBook Pros with Retina displays have only a 13" or 15" screen, their resolution is even higher than my 27" screen which could be why so many MacBook with Retina display owners seem to be having issues with guests.

just a thought.
