Slow down when hosting a debian-apache website

Post by deeaamon »

Hello everyone,

I just created a debian apache webserver using a virtualbox. So far it works and I have been using it for about 3-4 weeks.

I used to host our websites on another apache computer that was not housed inside a virtual box. Here is my issue. Now the same website that I ran through a apache computer ran much better than this one through my virtual box. I rebuilt the new apache system from scratch in the virtual box then uploaded the websites to it. Here are my issues.

Both FTP and PHP scripts run a lot slower than they did on the apache machine which was an old Pentium 2 processor. I am now using a Windows 2003 server with a Raid 5 system and inside the windows system I installed Virtual Box and created a debian install with Apache.

I did this because of issues I was having with windows IIS. My question is how do I know if its virtual box slowing things down or my router.

ISTM it could be a lot of other things slowing it down, e.g. not enough RAM, disk congestion etc. How are we to know? See Minimum information needed for assistance.
