Re: virtualbox 4.2.6 - --- Could not find an open hard disk
The error is clear : Virtualbox cannot find the disk of the VM.
Attach as a zip file the output of the following, ran from the Virtualbox installation dir :

Sounds like a typical snapshots problem. By stopping the VM the control file has lost sync with the contents of the VM folder. The remedy would depend on what's left to work with.
Post the following :-
Post the following :-
- Directory listing of VM folder.
- Directory listing of VM/Snapshots folder.
- A .zip containing your VMs .vbox file.

Looks like you're effectively missing a file, or at leat which is not registered. We can see the UUID of the disk, but we don't see its registration in the file.
What files do you have in the WindowsXP VM folder?

Re: virtualbox 4.2.6 - --- Could not find an open hard disk
Strange. You have no media at all registered with the VM. When I've seen this in the past it was the result of the user creating the VM in weird ways, e.g. drag-and-dropping the hard disk into the global media registry and then accessing it from a VM, or accessing media belonging to another VM. Basically, instead of reading the current user manual for current methods of creating a VM, the user instead relied on some randomly selected and ancient blog that was wildly inaccurate even when it was written - accuracy not improved by the passage of time.
In any case the sequence of events mentioned in the first post cannot have produced this problem, the cause must be along the lines I've just suggested.

Simply go into your VM settings, under the storage section.
You'll see the IDE connector. Remove any previous disk that is attached, and when prompted select KEEP or you'll effectively loose your disk.
Then, while selecting the IDE connector, click on the icon to add a disk at the bottom, and select the VDI you just found.
Start the VM and all should be fine.

Re: virtualbox 4.2.6 - --- Could not find an open hard disk
Of course you do - you are running v4.2.6, so you have the same windows that every other v4.2.6 and later user has.VMROCKzzz wrote:I don't have it vbox main window to do that
- Go to the main VirtualBox GUI window
- Select your VM, and click the "Settings" button on the top toolbar.
- Select the "Storage" item from the list.
- Click the "Controller:" line in the listbox and click the "Add Hard Disk" button right beside it.
- Browse to your VDI file, done.
Re: virtualbox 4.2.6 - --- Could not find an open hard disk
thanks for your reply. I do not have that VM in virtualbox GUI window. it is because i manually removed it before, but now if i try to load, it gives me that error.

Re: virtualbox 4.2.6 - --- Could not find an open hard disk
Ok, I have manually corrected your .vbox file, see the attachment. Backup your old .vbox file before replacing with this one. Make sure the "Windows XP.vdi" file is in the same folder as the VM.
