Ok, I just looked at your log again, and noticed that you are running the r84104 build of v4.2.10, so I guess that means you didn't read the v4.2.10 discussion thread which highlighted the problem below.
v4.2.10 when first released contained a corrupted VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file. Within hours this problem was reported and a new build (r84105) was made available. You need to unmount the CD ISO from your VM, then download and install the r84105 build, then try installing the GAs again.

Thank you, now it makes sense. I'm in the middle of something else at the moment and that isn't my highest priority, but I should get back to it later today.

I am not sure that I saw the info that I am going to post in the replies that are already in the thread. If the info is there and I missed it, please excuse me. The iso of the vbox guest additions, after you have installed Virtual Box should be found at C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso . When you have your virtual machine created and running, go to upper left of the machine window and click on 'Devices' and choose 'Insert Guest Additions CD image' . After you have clicked on that, go to 'Computer' in the start menu of your virtual machine and below the 'C' drive, you should see "CD drive (D:) Virtual Box Guest Additions" . Double click on it and it will proceed to install. After the installation is done, you have to reboot the machine before it takes effect. Hope this helps someone. The Guest Additions ISO that I have says it is 61.7 MB
