Hello,
I'm trying to run Windows 7 on VirtualBox (Natively I run OSX Lion). However, during the install wizard of Windows 7, it cannot "expand" Windows files. The DVD sputters a while, then it says it "cannot install required files." The error number it gives me is 0x80070017.
I know for Windows, normally, this means my DVD is messed up. In VirtualBox is it the same problem? Is it FOR SURE the same problem?
Thanks

Re: Windows 7 Won't "Expand" Files, Install Error
Is it a full /normal Windows 7 DVD or a recovery DVD from another hardware manufacturer?
Sometimes it helps to make an ISO image from that install DVD.
And can you please post a log file (select guest in VBOX GUI, right mouse button, show log).

Re: Windows 7 Won't "Expand" Files, Install Error
It's just the normal Windows 7 DVD.
I don't know how to install the .iso to VirtualBox either. I have the .iso as well. I also have a USB and I've made a bootdisc out of it.
I attached the log, but I don't know what good it will do you. I deleted the old one and made a new one wherein I have not tried to run my DVD. Should I try to run the DVD again, then post a newer log? Of course it'd be easier if I could just do something with my .iso or USB.

Configure the CD/DVD to use your ISO. This is located into the VM settings, under the Storage section.
Select to use an ISO instead of a host drive.

Under storage it has two types of controllers, one called IDE, where under sits "Host Drive." The other controller is SATA, where under sits "Windows.vdi." My .iso is on my desktop. I don't know where to add it to the storage tree or how, and there doesn't seem to be anything on here that says "use .iso."
Thanks for the help

There should be a virtual CD-ROM drive attached to the IDE controller in your VM. Click that drive, then use the panel on the right to select your ISO.
If no virtual CD/DVD drive is connected to the VM then add one: click the IDE controller then click one of the small "Add CD/DVD" button beside it.

That worked, thanks! I booted Windows 7 from my .iso.
