Win Host can't see webserver in Linux Guest sometimes

I have a Win7 host.
xubuntu guest running a web server.
When Win7 host is connected to my network over wifi, all other computers can see the webserver at 192.168.1.1 and I can also see it from the host as well. (load web pages, do ftp etc).
But if my Win7 host is NOT connected to my network It can't see the webserver, so I can't do work on it away from home.
If my Win7 host is connected to another laptop over Ad Hoc, they can both see the web server, so I CAN do work away from home but ONLY if using a network connection?.
My VBox network is set to use the Bridged Wifi Adapater, so that is obviously the cause. But I've tried Internal and other settings and none work.
Do I need to use two adapters in Vbox? Does the other one need to be Host Only with Auto DHCP or something else?
I'm not sure, took me all day getting Ad Hoc working and I'm not sure if changing Adapter/Network settings is instant or requires Guest reboots or time to reconfigure.
