I have mac book pro with retina display. I am not able to open the .vdi disk already I have that runs linux. I am getting this error.
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu.
Failed to open image '/Volumes/Spyware/Don't Delete/BigDataVM.vdi' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
Failed to attach driver below us! Image is read-only. (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
AHCI: Failed to attach drive to Port0 (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
I have seen a thread that there was a problem with earlier versions of virtual box as well. Is this still in the current release ? Please let me know if I have to get something to make it work

I'm pretty sure VirtualBox 4.2.10 runs on OSX 10.8.3. I have 27 Linux guests + 1 Windows 7 guest running on it.
edit: you could try changing the permissions of the .vdi file. right click on it and choose Get Info and make sure you have read write permissions.
