Virtualbox slide menu missing with 3D Acceleration Active

Post by SlimShady58 »

Virtualbox 4.2.10's Slide Menu seems to be missing when I enable the option 3D Acceleration for OSes. The OS that had this problem is Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 8. I enabled the 3D Acceleration on Ubuntu because I receive a massive lag because of the software rendering if I don't on Windows 8, I enabled it so that I could play the apps without massive lag as well.

What is the "slide menu"? Do you mean the popup toolbar menu? If so, that feature should not be affected by the 3D option, however it may indicate that you have not installed the guest additions properly (I'm guessing that you uninstalled and then reinstalled the GAs in order to enable 3D).

I reinstalled the the GAs and the problem was still there but if I disable the 3D Acceleration, the pop-up toolbar works again even if I don't re-install Guest Additions.

If it is the unity dash you are talking about, you can't set it to auto hide if you are using 3D. That has never worked in a Ubuntu guest with unity. you would need to use the super key to bring the dash bar back if you run 3D enabled, which you should. If you run with 3D disabled then Ubuntu will revert to software acceleration and your processor really gets a workout.

I'm talking about the pop-up toolbar on Virtualbox NOT Ubuntu.
