Hi,
I have Windows 7 installed on my PC in VirtualBox I'm running ubuntu. I installed "guest addition" in ubuntu and "VirtualBox 4.2.10 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack". Stil when I plug my thumb drive or my usb wifi I can't see none of them under Settings>USB tab. I think you will answer that I need to set up a filter. How can I get the info for filter?

You are in the right area to set up a filter, did you click the icon to the right with the green + on it? It should show the available USB devices that are plugged in, select you device. You did check the ENABLE USB CONTROLLER in the same dialog didn't you?
Adding a filter here will allow the guest to always add the USB device automatically when it's plugged in. Without a filter you have to connect manually, while the guest is running you right click the USB icon in the toolbar in the lower right, this allows the device to be connected on a per run basis. Doing it from the toolbar you will have to manually connect it to the guest each time the guest is run.
It also make take some time for the USB device to initially connect, the HOST will respond with a NEW HARDWARE search and add a VIRTUALBOX USB device, this happens the first time and the device is connected (if a filter was added) or allows it to be connected from the toolbar on the per-run basis. The new hardware search takes some time. Plug the USB device and leave it for 5 minutes. it will connect much faster after the first time. Some hosts are slower than others on the first connect.
