NeXTStep 3.3 on the Virtual Box

I have a new MacBookPro, running Mountain Lion. I also have my 2007 MacBook running Snow Leopard. I owned a NeXT color workstation years ago but i am not a geek by any stretch. So . . I'm a little scared to load the Snow Leapard into the Virtual Box on my MacBookPro (although I suppose I should be able to do it—I installed Virtual Box and I like the looks of Virtual Box!!) That will work, won't it?
What I am trying to accomplish is this - with Snow Leopard, a friend tells me he can run Open Step, which was the Intel version of NeXTStep, the most elegant OS ever and the free BSD inspiration for OS X. Can I safely load Snow Leopard into the Virtual Box on my Mountaion Lion MacBookPro and then when I get a copy of Open Step, install Openstep in the Snow Leopard. Will that work?
Another related question: Can I skip the Snow Leopard and install my copy of NeXT Step 3.3 in the Virtua Box? I didn't see it in the supported operating systems
(NeXTStep cost $200 years ago. (My NeXT had 12 megs of ram. I bought a 4 meg ram stick from BEST BUY FOR $205.00 - Back IN 1992. It screamed with 16 megs of ram. Back then a 1 Gig hard drive was $2100.
Thanks in advance.
