Hello
Im trying to get my FaceTimeHD Camera from my OSX host to a Ubuntu 12.04 Guest. But until now im out of Luck.
I Tryed it with a Test version from VMware Fusion and it Works without a problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. So it cant be a driver Issue.
Im using Virtualbox 4.2.10 with Oracle usb 2.0 Drivers.

I have set the Prozessors to 1, due the USB 2.0 bug with multiple Prozessors.
I Also tried to get it to work with USB 1.1 but also without luck.

The camera gets Recognized, fully but I get always only a black picture.
Has anyone got a webcam working?

Suggest
  • in Terminal window (Applications/Utilities), key in vboxmanage list usbhost (hit enter)
Using the Scroll Bar, scroll up until you locate the the information for the Web cam USB device
Note (copy down) the following attributes
    • VenderID:
      ProductID:
      SerialNumber:
In VBox GUI, the virtual machine's Settings USB
    • Remove (delete) any existing filters for the Web Cam (highlight, press yellow icon on the right)
create a filter for the USB device via the green plus sign icon (on the right)
via the yellow circle icon (also on the right) edit the filter
      Erase/blank out all fields BUT
      • Name:
        Vendor ID:
        Product ID:
        Serial No.:
        Remote:
Compare the data you wrote down from vboxmanage list usbhost above; they should match
      Press OK button
Make sure the checkbox is checked
      Exit Settings by pressing OK
    Exit from (quit) VBox
Start VBox and the virtual machine
The above assumes that the extension package is already installed
