Seamless mode stopped working

Im' running XP guest and XP host, Seamless mode was working so fine and suddenly for some reason I cannot get it to work anymore. I have tried various reboots, reinstall of 1.5.6 additions, give 16 MB instead of 8 to video memory, and still no luck :/

Anyone has a clue about what can cause this?

Do you have a window open when switching to Seamless? You need to have one window visible for Seamless to work.

yeah more than one, in host and guest, now rebooted host too, nothing changes, it seems seamless died for my vbox machine

Seamless has started to work again with no apparent reason, curiously after an unknown host crash+reboot while running the VM. (no usb related, i have usb disabled totally).

I've had issues that might be related with yours. Since VBox 1.5.6 I've had an occasional problem where the fullscreen hotkey doesn't work, possibly others as well. Not cool when you're in fullscreen mode and this happens. See Keyboard Capture on Multiple Monitors and KB Capture Bugs under Suggestions for more information about this.

I started fiddling around with seamless mode more and found that if the VM has focus, then you can switch between the host and guest desktops with Win+D. Could this be your issue, that you _are_ in seamless mode but you see your guest desktop? Not very likely, since it usually hides the VM's desktop again when you open something, but I figured I'd point this out.

I get the exact same thing on XP host Ubuntu guest. Seamless is now gone from my system. Under the Machine file bar, seamless shows as disabled, and the hot key doesn't work either. Even with various numbers of windows open. I also tried various reboots and boosting the video memory to 32 MB. No luck. I'll try 'crashing' the system with VM running with an instant hard powerdown; if that workaround should work I'll post my success story here later.

All seamless problems went away for me somewhere around version 2 of VirtualBox, Maybe you should consider upgrading. I run Vista host and Ubuntu 9.04 seamless 24/7 and often switch it in and out of seamless, which is something I could not do in previous versions.

I had no luck with the purposeful system crash.

I'm pretty new to Virtual Box (May '09) and am running VB version 2.2.4. I had gotten Seamless to work very well. And now it's gone.

I am Happy to report that all is working again after a reinstall of the guest additions !!!
