Can I change RAM/CPU settings of a snapshot?

Post by randomhero »

So I set up a virtual Windows environment to use with FOG for imaging. I created the machine on a high-end MacBook Pro, took some snapshots, etc.

Now I transferred everything over to an external hard drive so I could use it with a low-end 13" MacBook Pro, but there's a problem. The snapshots are allocated more RAM and CPU and the computer even has so it just freezes. Is it possible to change the amount of RAM and CPU of a snapshot? It is greyed out when I try to work with it.

Or is there a way to boot into the last snapshot I have, change the settings, and take a new snapshot?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like you moved it without shutting the guest down (not saved state)
Click the discard icon and the change the settings. Hopefully you have the original still on the first PC in case this goes south.

I don't use snapshots (they're evil) so I will let someone else guide you there.

I agree with Perry, this doesn't sound like a snapshot issue at all. Snapshots are just markers of previous VM states that you can return to. You can always change the settings of the current state, provided the VM is shut down (not saved state).

Oh - and if you want your VMs to be portable between hosts, snapshots are probably a bad idea.

I know this is an oldish post but I've just come across it and I'm curious Perryg - why do you think snapshots are evil ?

I do a lot of testing of software on VMs and the ability to rollback to a previous state saves me a lot of time.

No need to rehash old territory here. Just Google for "snapshot problem site:forums.virtualbox.org", see for yourself. Then try variations on the word "problem".
