Need to completley remove and reinstall VirtualBox

Hello,
I was using VirtualBox on my Windows 7 machine to run Autocad under Windows XP. I tried to restore XP to do some work yesterday and got an error "Cannot access the kernel driver".
Error code:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP 1.
The virtual machine 'Windows XP 1' has terminated unexpectedly during startup.
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}
I have all my data on my Windows 7 drive, so I wanted to reinstall Windows XP and Autocad from scratch - but every time I try, the old image - and error - seems to be stuck in there somewhere.
So - how do I completely purge the old VM and VirtualBox so I can start clean? Uninstall does not remove the old stuff, neither does trying to remove the VM from inside VirtualBox.
This might be a clue - a fresh installation after uninstalling brings un Windows XP as the default VM, and never gives me the choice of installing from the CD.
