Video problems installing Linux 12.04 on VirtualBox 4.2.10

Post by bjornar47 »

Hello,
I encountered the following problems when doing this install on a Windows 7 machine:
Installation went OK until display says "Installation is complete. You need to restart your machine in order to use the new installation"
I then press "Restart Now".
A message appears saying "Please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER:
Nothing happens when I press ENTER (I have checked that the Ubuntu ISO image is dismounted)
I then force a shutdown by selecting Machine...Close...Power Off the machine (the APCI menu does not work) and the VM is powered off.
Next time I start the VM I get a message saying "The system is running in low-graphics mode". If I try to start in low-graphics mode the VM screen is completely black. I suspect the error is related to the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso because when I select Devices...Install Guest Additions I get an error message saying "Unable to mount the CD/DVD image C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VboxGuestAdditions.iso". The error code is VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED

That's a rather confused description. First though, have you read the v4.2.10 discussion thread?

And how did you manage to mount the GAs ISO if you didn't complete the installation?

The "system in running in low-graphics mode" is a warning, not an error. You can ignore it. In fact there's a check box to allow you to ignore it.
