Blank Screen on win7 host running Ubuntu 12.10

Post by el_butters »

Hello everyone,

I've been having problems loading Ubuntu in Virtualbox. When creating a new virtualization everything goes fine (40 gb fixed HDD, 1024 mb RAM, 32 mb video). I install Ubuntu perfectly fine and restart to the login screen. But once I entered my password to log into Ubuntu, a blank screen appears. It's the Ubuntu default background picture with no icons present. I am not able to do anything with it. Sometimes it asks me to update but once I do, nothing changes. I remember once seeing a notification saying that Compiz has failed to start but then I clicked retry. So any ideas what could be wrong?

Moved to Linux guest

Is 3D acceleration enabled in the guest settings -> display ?

Well installing guest additions helped fix the problem in case anyone else was following along. So no need to post the minimum requirements :D
