First I want you to know that storing the guests drive outside the guests folder is what caused your problem. Normally it is stored as My screen shot shows.

First thing you need to be sure of is the drive letters. Are they correct? Windows does not assign the same driver letter every time.
Now the logs show a permission issue too, so is admin the name of the user that installed and is starting VirtualBox on both systems?

Ah ok so default setting would have put the VHD in the user area

I put mine on E as im making LOADS of images and its got all the room c: is small , needed to uprade laptop to 1 TB also.

Both have been admin as usr name all I ever use

i did previous try this by just copying to the appropriate folders but it kept crashing making snaphots ...back on the desktop it worked fine though

what can I Do ?

thanks for ur time

This does not look like it should. You mentioned snapshots which I do not see listed. And the base is not right either.

1) zip the original virtualbox.xml and original *.vbox and post here.
2) explain step by step how you actually added the guest to the laptop.

Hi these are from the working system - desktop
Snapshots working no problems etc VHD's on the E: drive in \Data\Vm

A while back I thought I had sussed this out. I made the laptop the same as the desktop
same version vbox
same account name; admin
set up e:\data\VM to copy all the VHD's over on the laptop as is same in desktop

the just copied user area \users\admin\virtualbox vms
in to the same place on the laptop
I did the same for the VM's copied to E:\Data\VM created on a different partition on the laptop

I could open and use the VM's with no problems.
Then I discovered how "snapshots" could really benefit me and tried them on the newly set up VM install on the laptop
As soon as the snapshots nealry saved the application crashed.

I went back to desktop and seen that snapshots working fine so began working away to get to now where I want to copy eveything to the laptop coz I know it all works here so should on the laptop
I have also tested this on a test machine with a fresh build of 7 pro 64 and its the same problem.

Hope that helps

Well you can't just copy files. You have to register them.

1) remove the guest on the laptop. (right click on the guest in the main manager and then select remove)
you will be asked if you want to delete the files as well. I would delete them entire thing if it were me. (unless the external drive is being used by both PCs)
If the external drive is being used by both PCs then I would unplug it for now and then remove the guest. Expect to have your hands slapped but VBox because the VHD is not present. Then you open the media manager in the main manager and remove the guest from there.

2) copy the folder and the guest drive to the laptop and make sure they are in the same location. (plug the external drive in again if you had to remove it)

3) click on the machine tab at the top and then the add link.
this will open the file manager and you need to drill to the location of the *.vbox file and select it.

This will add the guest & drive and register all the snapshots (if there are any.

Hopefully Windows will deal with this and keep all drive letter the same. Anyway that's all I have. Good luck.

It looks like that is where the actual guest drive is mounted. Are you saying this is a second drive?

Hey! got somewhere

copied folder structure as you mentioned before with the VHD in the default place and edited the *.vbox file and replaced all "E:\Data\Vm\Machinename\Machine.VHD" with "C:\Users\Admin\VirtualBox VMs\Machinename\Machine.VHD"" and its working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVEN RESTORED A SNAPSHOT...!

However original issue back....Saving a snapshot makes the error "oracle virtal box has stopped responding"
any ideas dude?
