User "dmischa" has posted a patch on the centos forum CentOS 6 - General Support in a thread entitled "VirtualBox4.2.8 and CentOS 6.4".
I can't post the link.

The CentOS patch installs the Additions and the OpenGL driver, but I can only boot into Gnome with the 3D support disabled in virtualbox settings.
Seems like the 3D support from versions 4.2.4 to 4.2.8 still have a lot of work to be done.
Hope Virtualbox Team Fix it soon

I can get into Gnome after I deleted /etc/X11/xorg.conf
But it hangs on removing the old version:
Code: Select all
[root@- ~]# /media/VBOXADDITIONS_4.2.8_83876/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 4.2.8 Guest Additions for Linux............
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Removing installed version 4.2.4 of VirtualBox Guest Additions...

I am also having the same problem. I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the vbox boots correctly.
Upon running VBoxLinuxAdditions.run, the openGL (vboxvideo) portion of the install does not build correctly:
/tmp/vbox.0/vboxvideo_drm.c:110: error: unknown field ‘reclaim_buffers’ specified in initializer
Has Oracle looked at this issue?

There is a patch. Turns out for me it worked, the command was still running after a while and I thought it froze, but eventually worked.
