Hi,
I keep having errors where I can install from an ISO, but upon completion when prompted to restart the Guest OS, clicking the restart button causes Windows to throw the "Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager has stopped working" error. I have tried uninstalling VirtualBox and deleting the folders it creates, and reinstalling (this process twice now). Have not gone into the registry yet when uninstalling the software. When the error occurs, the VM shows a status of "Aborted", and upon starting the VM it acts as if it is a new go-around (does not boot into a full install OS like it should, but instead prompts to install again). However, when going through the install it does notice that the virtual disk has already been formatted, and offers to either delete the current install and make a new one or install them side-by-side.
Host is a 64 bit machine running Win7 SP1 Pro. The Guest is Linux Debian 64 bit. The version of VirtualBox is 4.2.8 (VirtualBox-4.2.8-83876-Win.exe). I have not installed Guest Additions but have installed the Extension Pack (file Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.2.8-83876.vbox-extpack). There is 8GB total RAM, I'm trying to allocate 4GB to the Guest. Am trying to give the Guest 4 CPUs (there are 8 total).
Admittedly I am new to VM technology. However, I have tried this same setup in VMWare Player and it's currently working. Just wanted to use VirtualBox since that's what the distro was initially tested on.
See the attached log file. Any help is appreciated, and I can provide more details if needed.
Thanks,
Dizi

You are assigning more cores then you have set it to one and see if it works better.
Also you say every time you start it the guest it is in install mode. This means that you failed to remove the virtual CD just like on metal if the guest boots to the CD first it will continue in that loop until you remove it.

Re: Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager Stopped Working on Restart
@Perryg,
Thanks. Any reason why it doesn't work with 2 cores then? I'm just confused because I am using this same distro in VMWare Player and it works with 4 cores assigned.
I tried this distro in VirtualBox with two cores as well and that had the same crash results. However, installing with one core does work thankfully. I may end up sticking with VMWare in this case because the host is doing nothing but serving the guest, so I don't care to sap the host of resources so long as it stays turned on.
As for the install mode note, unless VirtualBox automatically unmounts the virtual CD on completion of install, I don't know what it could be. When the install finished fine (on this host machine and a different host machine), I was no longer given the prompt to install. It now boots fully like a PC should.
Either way, thanks for the help and insight.

Re: Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager Stopped Working on Restart
I can only assume that one uses simulated processors and one (VBox) uses actual processors. I know that cores are not processors and using all for the guest leaves nothing for the host, not even the virtualizer process that it takes to run the guest.
There are of course other considerations that could be your issue but that would take you investigating since it can not be done remotely.

@Perryg,
After talking with a few of the guys in our office a little more familiar with VMs, that's what they're thinking as well. Appreciate the quick help in solving my issue.
