I am trying to create a Windows7 virtual machine on my iMac desktop, running Mountain Lion, using the latest Mac version of VirtualBox.
However, whenever I start the new VM for the first time, expecting to be guided through the process of installing Win7, my iMac spits out the Win7 installation disk, saying "fatal error".
How can I prevent this, and perform an install?
I am using a full-version Win7 disk, with a valid authorisation code, (not that I can get as far as entering the code).
Many thanks
Chris

Re: Installing Windows7 on iMac
Making an ISO/DMG image of the setup DVD can sometimes make the process more reliable.
To say anything more we would need the precise error message.

Re: Installing Windows7 on iMac
Thanks very much for the reply.
I have now resolved the first problem (using an external DVD drive, as the internal one seems to be having problems) but I have a new one.
When I come to install Windows 7 into the new VM, it reads the files fine and then says Starting Windows.
At that point I get a message telling me that "windows failed to start" and as,king me to insert the installation disc, which is already in. It urges me to restart, but whenever I do I get the same problem.
It says "Status 0xc0000225" and "Info: An unexpected error has occurred", and I can get no further than that.
Any thoughts?
best regards
Chris

Re: Installing Windows7 on iMac
But now I have another question.
The largest Windows screen I can get in VirtualBox seems to be 1660x1200 which looks really tiny on my iMac 27-inch display, which is 2560x1440.
Is there any way to increase it? When I right click inside the VM and choose screen resolution, 1660x1200 is thr max -- even though i can get a full screen when running windows 7 in bootcamp.
Thanks again,
Chris

Re: Installing Windows7 on iMac
Install the guest additions (in the guest) and then use the host+F toggle to go in and out of full screen
