I'm trying to install a guest Windows 8 PC on a virtual Windows 2008 server.
The 1st error is about the VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration not being available. I select Continue, because I don't know what else to do.
The guest starts booting from the iso, then crashes. The error on the screen lists:
You PC needs to restart
Please hold down the power button

I suspect the 1st error regarding the hardware acceleration is the problem, since I had no trouble installing Win 8 on a Win 7 laptop. Where do I look for this file?

You need to enable hardware virtualization in your PCs bios to be able to install Windows 8

Where would I make that setting? In VirtualBox for my new guest OS?

Um, I'm sure Perry doesn't mean that you need to change your PCs BIOS - that would be rather risky. Google for how to make changes in your PC's BIOS configuration, as that is where you will find the VT-x option (which may be called something else, such as Virtualization Functions). Basically, the procedure is specific to the BIOS in your host PC, so we can't tell you how to do it.

Actually I am sure of the search key words. That is what produced the most responses and various ways on different PCs. Go figure.

As I initially stated the host is a VMWare virtual machine. In order to modify the BIOS of the VM, I have to go into vSphere, edit the machine settings, select Options & change the CPU/MMU Visualization from 'Automatic' to 'Use Intel VT-x/AMD-v for instruction set virtualization and software for virtualization', or 'Use Intel Vt-x/AMD-V for instruction set virtualization and Intel/AMD RVI MMU virtualization'. After making the change a reboot is required.
Note: Making these changes may not work if they conflict with the host, and the system will revert to Automatic.

And where exactly did you state that? Anyway nested virtualization is not supported, so glad you got it working.
