Hello.
Usually, I often use VMware player. It's working fine BUT ... the player (free) version has no spashot funcionnalities.
So now I'm trying to use virtualbox.
I'm running Windows 8 x 64 Pro.
I downloaded and installed vb 4.2.6r82870.
And now I'm trying ti simply install debian squeeze 6.0.6. So I create a new machine with all default setting. And only change de network access mode from NAT to Bridged (sorry if it's not the exact term, my version is in french).
I start installing and the nertwork part is ... failing. Unable to get DHCP. I have a wifi connection so my adaptator is well Linksys AE1000 and in the Advanced mode I tried all card modes but nothing to do.
The strange thing is that lookink on my router I see a network address is well reserved during the installation phase but it's like the response not going back to the virtual machine.
I tried the same operation on another pc (still wifi but with Windows 7 x64) and same issue...
If I leave the NAT, everything works fine, squeeze has internet access BUT ... I cannot reach the apache server from outside the virtual machine !
I see on internet lot of people experiencing the sames issues but without any solution.
Can someone tell me what I have to do for working ?
Thanks.

Does it work if you use an ethernet link instead of Wifi?
Some routers are not prepared to have several entities behind a single Wifi link, so try over ethernet first.

Ok, I tried with a cable and ... it's working.
So I also tried with VMware (in wifi) thinking it will work and ... no. It's not working.
So what's the problem ?
I'm sure (with VMware) that in my office it's working in bridged mode. What's the difference here at home with my private network ?

Re: VirtualBox & DHCP on bridged network not working
As I said, the wifi equipement is not necessarly prepared to deal with several computers behind a single Wifi link.
Wifi connections are supposed to be P2P. So it really drills down to how the firmware would deal with this.
Also, the fact that you most likely have a "all-in-one" box (internet, dhcp server, lan, wifi) at home but most likely not at work (the Wifi AP is only responsible for the wifi links) then you don't have that issue.
