[Resolved] Critical error installing Wheezy 64 bit guest

Post by sprescott »

I am trying to install a Debian Wheezy 64 bit guest OS on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit host. The hardware is a Samsung notebook with Intel Core i7 64-bit quad core with hardware acceleration enabled (VT-x). VBox is version 4.2.6. All my 32-bit guests install and run just fine. Some research I did on the forum suggested disabling nested paging which I did but it still stops before installation even really gets started with the critical error.

I also tried installing Debian Squeeze 64 bit guest with the same error. I have attached a zipped archive of my VBox log. I appreciate any help that can be offered.

Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.

Oops, sorry. I must not have zipped the correct file. Try this one.

A few things.

First set the memory to 2048MB at most and the processor count to 2 at the most.

Then see if it makes a difference.

Next your error (guru mediiation) is due to the following

Code: Select all

Guru Meditation -1618 (VERR_PGM_PHYS_PAGE_RESERVED)
Do you have another virtualizer running, (hyper-v) or google desktop appliances?
Also some virus software's cause this issue as well.

Thank you for your quick responses. Your suggestions didn't help, unfortunately. I also don't have any other virtualization software installed. I tried disabling both Windows firewall and my AVG Free anti-virus which also didn't help.

Thank you again for your time.

I did a quick search on bugtracker and did see some reference to this error. Most do not occur with Windows hosts. I think it has to do with addressing the physical memory but that would need to be determined by the DEVs. You should post a ticket at bugtracker

I got a reply from the devs about the error I was having installing Debian Wheezy 64 bit guest. I was using the wrong installation iso. I didn't realize that amd64 also covers intel64 and was using the ia64 iso thinking it was the intel64 bit iso.
