accessing network printer from Guest XP

Post by avatrx »

I've read thru the networking section in the user guide but can't figure out how to access a printer on my network. (set at NAT) I am able to connect to the internet although I am not able to install MS security essentials. I am also not able to access a printer on my network. I am able to print to this printer when in HOST mode with VM turned off.

I set the 'drag and drop" to bidirectional, but I can't seem to accomplish that. Perhaps my understanding of what that allows is wrong? I assumed it meant that I could transfer files between the guest and host? I attempted to save a file created in Guest on the HOST desktop. that didn't work. I ultimately saved that file on a USB.

I'm very new to VM stuff. I've read thru the manuals, but will do so again. I'm sure it's a simple setting that I'm missing. I had installed the VM a couple of days ago and was able to print thru it.(a printer on my home network - USB) I uninstalled it since I was having so many issues trying to access a device which was connected to a parallel port. I"ve since hooked that device up to a serial port (reinstalled a VM with XP Pro) on a WIN7 Pro system. but now can't seem to access any of my printers on the network while Guest is active.

any advice would be appreciated.

You would need to set the network adapter to Bridged to be able to use other PCs on your LAN.
Drag'n'Drop on works to a Linux guest at this point.
