guest:
win 7 x64 sp1, admin, 8gig ram, i7 cpu
host:
xp sp3 x86, 2gig ram,
vbox:
latest, 4.2.6

For half a year everything was working smoothly on my windows xp vm. I dont usually have internet access on my VMs, but today i randomly decided i'd need it. SO i turned off the vm (via windows shutdown), enabled one of the network cards, and started the vm again. Unfortunately, shortly before the windows boot screen turned to windows logon shell, the VM crashed silently. By that i mean that the windows just closes and that's it. No error message, no crash report.

So i disabled the network card again, but hte problem persists.

Log is attached. i'd really appreciate any help in getting the VM to work again, as it has up to now.

Log shows the guest is powering down. You will need to see what the cause is from the guest.

You may need to try a safe boot and shut off reboot on error (BSOD) to be able to record the actual error.

tried that already:

safe mode: same silent crash
"disable automatic reboot": same silent crash


edit:
it just got stuck in the boot screen...just hangs there...

Don't have any more ideas. Guest log shows that the guest is requesting the shut down which usually means a driver conflict or corruption.

Alright, i am unable to fix it. I also installed a couple of updates on the VM yesterday...maybe that's where something went wrong. No clue as to what that may be though.

I am trashing the VM. Let's hope that wont happen again...

I would make a backup on occasion so I can recoup without loosing everything and you should also check the (host) disk for errors just to be sure that the HDD is not going south.
