Graphics Stuttering during Neverwinter Nights

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to run the GOG version of Neverwinter nights on my Macbook Pro using virtualbox and windows 7 ultimate. If I install the game on my Boot Camp partition, everything works fine, but I'm having some graphics issues using the windows 7 guest via virtualbox.
When I first start the game, there is no issue - everything runs smooth and works great. As soon as I save, however, (quick save or regular save) the graphics performance drops significantly (framerate drops, stuttering, etc). The only way to get it back seems to be quitting NWN and restarting it.
I have enabled 3d and 2d acceleration, and installed the Direct3d virtualbox guest extension, but after I save, it's almost like virtualbox is falling back on software rendering.
Does anyone know anything else I can try, or any logs I should look at?
System information:
Host: Macbook Pro, core i7, 8GB RAM, nVidia 330M graphics card, virtualbox 4.2.6 r82870
Guest: Windows 7 ultimate, 2GB RAM, 3d Acceleration, 2d Acceleration, 256MB of graphics card memory.
