USB support
I'm having a problem accessing usb drives. I have the guest additions properly installed through safe mode, and I enabled usb support. But any time I try to access a flash drive, I get a message telling me that the drive is busy with another request. I hate to sound like an idiot, but I haven't been able to make anything of the instructions. I should probably mention that what I'm trying to do is run a couple of devices on an xp guest, since my host system is win 8, and they are not supported. Is this feasible? If so, could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Re: USB support
What you are doing wrong? You are not posting infos, only "does not work".
VBOX version? Extension Pack on Host installed?
Host with USB2 or USB3?
A log file from the guest (VBOX Gui, select guest, right mouse button, show log).
A hint: You can use Shared Folders instead of USB.

Re: USB support
Sorry, I'm not an experienced user, so I'm usually not sure exactly what info is needed. I'm happy to provide details, thank you for letting me know what was needed. I'm using the most recent version of VBOX, version 4.2.6 r8287, with the extension pack 4.2.6-82870. The host system has usb 3.0 ports. I have attached a log file as requested, and here are the details of the error message I'm receiving: Failed to attach the USB device Lexar USB Flash Drive [1100] to the virtual machine XP Games and Tech.
USB device 'Lexar USB Flash Drive' with UUID {eed12242-59f5-4c71-859a-955c8f7df8c4} is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.
Result Code: E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component: HostUSBDevice
Interface: IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}
Also, thank you for your tip about shared folders, but that won't help me. As I mentioned, I am attempting to use devices on XP because they are not compatible with 8, specifically an ebook reader and an mp3 player. I'm hoping to use XP to access the correct drivers for each device. Am I attempting something that is not supported? All of this information is still valid, since I've gotten this error with ordinary flash drives, but my main goal is to access my reader and player with XP.

Re: USB support
Please try USB Filters. VBOX Gui, select guest, change settings, USB , try green +-symbol.
After that start guest and try using the devices.

Re: USB support
AFAIK VirtualBox still does not support USB3. Most that have USB 3 if not all report that USB does not work in a guest.

Re: USB support
Great. Unfortunately, all the ports are 3.0. Well, thanks for the info. Looks like I may need to think about a new os, win 8 stinks anyway.Perryg wrote:AFAIK VirtualBox still does not support USB3. Most that have USB 3 if not all report that USB does not work in a guest.
