Convert vmware Xorg config to virtualbox?

Hi, I was given a vmare .vmx file by my vendor, and told to use VMWare. Instead, I tried it in VirtualBox, and it seems to work fine, but I have to wait for X Windows to fail and reconfigure Xorg manually every boot. I wonder if someone could help me prevent this step?

This is what happens:
* guest system starts up, it pops into Graphics mode, I see the colorful CentOS splash screen and working progress bar
* the VirtualBox window resizes itself to look like a 24 line terminal (???) (strange color pattern)
* CentOS as 8-bit graphics mode reports problem:
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly."
* I say that yes, I would like to reconfigure it now with the root password (again).
"Couldn't start X server on card 0. Trying again..."
The VirtualBox window resizes back to its beautiful size, and the graphics start and I have windows again prompting me to configure X
* I click, Yes, make this my new configuration.
* OS goes back to booting: it immediately jumps/resizes the window smaller again, and I see a pattern, and it says [8 bit graphics]:
"Trying to restart the X server"
* I click "OK", and now it resizes once more properly, restarts graphics properly, and presents the CentOS login.

I suspect if it didn't jump the window smaller, X windows would just start correctly.

I am not sure if this is a problem because I'm trying to use an image configured via vmware, or a centos problem, or user error.

I don't know how to tell if "Guest Additions" were installed, however here's other information:
VirtualBox 4.2.6 r82870
Host: Mac OS X 10.7.5, 8 GB memory
Guest: CentOS 5.9 x86_64
Xorg -version: 7.1.1 release 12 May 2006
