I get this message when attempting to install using my xp disc: "FATAL: No bootable medium found system failed". I had the same problem with Bootcamp which is why I tried VirtualBox. The reason, I found, was that my Mac OS X 10.8.2 system would not recognize xp is because apple stopped supporting xp with 10.7. So, I believe, that is the problem I'm encountering with VirtualBox also.

I was not able to open vb uninstall either.

I checked the forum during this process and actually sent all my vb folders to trash, including the ones under "library", and emptied trash, to no avail.

My HD is still partitioned with 1/2 the space unavailable.

VirtualBox does not install its OS on a disc partition. It installs it in a virtual hard disk, which is just another file in your file system. If something created a second partition, it was not VirtualBox.

The message you see means simply that the installer cannot read the input media. Where did you mount the XP install disc? Did you tell VirtualBox where to look (in the settings for your vm)?

Well, it can also mean that it can see the input media, but the media is not bootable. We've had lots of occasions when people have gotten hold of a service pack CD and assumed it was an XP setup CD just because "XP" appeared somewhere on the label.

Other known mistakes/issues:

• Putting a CD in the host drive thinking that mounts it in a VM drive 2.
• Some Mac host users have had trouble getting a VM to recognize a host CD drive. An ISO/DMG image file would work better.
