Virtual boxs are portable?

Did I read that somewhere? I can create a Vbox at home and maybe put the .vdi on a USB drive, take it somewhere and run it in a different host?

Yes, but don't expect it to be lightning fast

In principle it is doable, but there are no guarantees that it will be problem free. In practice you often have to fix minor problems (e.g. a network card being bridged to exists on one PC but is named differently on the other): and be aware that Windows activation may kick in if the CPU changes.
