Hi, i need help with my installation.
i just set up my virtualbox on my windows 7 laptop, i installed a linux 6 on the virtual machine. i was suposed to have a NIC setup on the linux (one bridged using a DHCP and the other static), but during installation, the dvd i was using for install didn't show where i was supposed to setup up the two NIC and the hostname, it bypassed it. if i type hostname on the linux at shell prompt, it gives an output of localhost.localdomain, if i type the ifconfig command, it only shows the loopback address.
someone please help me.

Re: can't assign ip address and hostname during installation
From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.
Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Re: can't assign ip address and hostname during installation
thanks for the prompt reply, i tried looking for the VBoxmanage.exe directory on my host computer but couldn't find such a directory.

Re: can't assign ip address and hostname during installation
The VBoxManage.exe executable is in the \Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox directory. You must cd to that folder at the command prompt, or add that folder to the search path, e.g. by typing path=<folder name>.

Re: can't assign ip address and hostname during installation
its a lab exercise i was working on, if you look at my initial post where i wrote that i was suppose to set up NIC cards (one bridged and the other static). i was able to install linux 5 on another virtual machine without any problem. i assigned the hostname and the static ip during installation and everything went good.
i have deleted the linux 6 and would be re-installing it again.
thanks
