Stuck after the login screen
I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop and the virtualbox version is 4.2.6 with default setting. After I login into the OS it stuck on the screen with default wallpaper only and there is nothing to pop-up on the system. Therefore I had try to reinstall the operating system seem is not working.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
Turn off 3D in the guest settings and then boot. If Unity works it might be slow but you should be able to install the guest additions, then shut down and enable 3D again.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
Since the guest additions are already mounted just install them.
You do this from a terminal. See Chapter 4.2.2 Guest Additions for Linux in your VirtualBox users manual or the following link:
Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions

Re: Stuck after the login screen
Been having the exact same issue. I'll try that and report back. Also, Ubuntu always hangs for me on "Checking Battery State" during bootup.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
You are not providing enough information to allow others to help you. E.g. "not working for me" tells us nothing useful. If you continue to be vague about what happens then you may find that your helpers just wander off elsewhere.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
I try to reinstall the OS on virtualbox by default setting. After reboot the OS, it will show to login screen for me to enter into the desktop. Seem in the login screen is working fine, once I logged into the desktop there is nothing to show in the desktop even the status bar and the menu bar as what I state on my first post. If I want to launch the terminal I need to use the keyboard shortcut with CTRL + ALT + T to launch it, else I cannot do anything on my desktop screen.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.
Also from the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.
Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Re: Stuck after the login screen
The logs are on the host. Click the link I provided for you.
Also remember to turn off the 3D acceleration in the video section of the guest settings.
