Error when Loading XP Pro

Post by Olfatguy »

I am trying to test a windows xp install disk I made with nLinte. I made the disk and was trying to install it in virtualbox when I got an error message. I am new to this but my guess is you will confirm weather this is a problem with virtualbox or my disk. Look at the attachments and let me know what you think.
Windows XP Pro SP3 Host
Pent 3
512M RAM
Windows XP Pro SP3 w/updates,hot-fixes,and IE8 Virtual Install
Thanks

You are allocating 168% of your available memory to the VM. You shouldn't really be allocating more than 50%, but you can't really even afford that on this host. This just isn't going to work. You only have a 512MB host, presumably single core. Practically speaking that simply isn't beefy enough to run two instances of XP simultaneously (host and guest). I had a similar spec PC when I first got interested in VMs, a few years ago. I pretty soon had to upgrade to a 2GB dual core PC. Those ought to be quite cheap by now.

OK I knew I was short on ram and this would be a problem so that makes sense. I did an ISO previous to the ISO I am having problems with. This was my first try so I made it as simple as I could (slip streamed SP1 with SP3). How come it worked? Is it possible that it was smaller so it was easier for Virtualbox to handle?

Sorry, without a log file from the "last time when it worked" your speculations are as good as mine.
