Is it possible? I did not understand well the documentation about the 4.2 release. I want to install XP Pro x86 modified on my Win7 x64 host but VirtualBox doesn't let me set the machine to two processors even if I select IO APIC on it. Tell me what I am missing, please =|

How many cores does your host have?

Incidentally, VMs usually run best on one core, so you may be wasting your time anyway.

No performance gain? Well, the machine I have is a Intel Dual Core 2.4GHZ with 4GB DDR2 RAM and SATA HDD and powerful radeon HD video card 1GB.
intel Dual Cores (not Core 2 Duos) are usually sell here without VT-x that's why in it isn't VT-x.

Well, if your host is dual core then you definitely can't give more than one to the guest. You need to leave one core for the host. That may be why VBox is disallowing it.

From https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch10.html#hwvirt
VirtualBox's 64-bit guest support (added with version 2.0) and multiprocessing (SMP, added with version 3.0) both require hardware virtualization to be enabled.

the machine is from 2008. I could swear that if I put VirtualBox on the quad core asus from 2011 that I need to power on because is stuck stopped here it will work =P. well, my original idea was really performance gain and I need to focus on other things as I really dream about being computer engineer yet.

thanks

thank you. I really couldn't find that and thought that was already possible to 4.2. I am looking forward about news on it if it gets it like VMWare Player (in the meaning that I read that vmware can do that)
